Coconut Oil

People are using it in everything from smoothies to bulletproof coffee, a mug of java spiked with coconut oil and butter. Should you sign up for an oil change?

What makes coconut oil superior is that it has the ability to withstand high temperatures and remain ‘stable’ in its’ structure. In other words, coconut oil doesn’t loose any beneficial attributes when heated, unlike regular oils, making it a superb oil choice when cooking at high temperatures or for long periods of time.

While some people falsely accuse coconut oil of being a “fad,” the fact is that it is a traditional oil that has been consumed for thousands of years in tropical cultures, and the research on the health benefits of coconut oil has existed for a very long time. Lauric acid, for example, has a long history of use in combating pathogens, and this research has been around for more than 50 years. Coconut oil is nature’s richest source of lauric acid.

Think of coconut oil as a condiment, rather than your daily ''go-to'' oil. And it is a smart substitute for other saturated fats, such as butter or shortening,
remember: A little coconut oil can go a long way in adding the flavor and texture you desire to certain foods. Your best to keep your total fat and saturated fat intake within the healthy range recommendationsthat are based on decades of research. Even if coconut oil is healthy, you can have too much of a good thing.

This is the case for fats, proteins, fiber, water—pretty much anything you eat or drink. It's all about balance.
